The CDC has compiled a basic zombie preparedness article:
http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2011/05/preparedness-101-zombie-apocalypse/
But it is VERY basic. In addition to the supplies they encourage you to keep on hand for the zombie apocalypse, a tornado or even and earth quake, you may also want to keep close at hand:
In a water-resistant container, kept where you would ideally shelter in the building where you spend the majority of your time:
Hand-crank radio
Disposable face masks
Latex gloves
Rubber gloves
Work gloves
Spare pair of shoes
Synthetic or wool sleeping bag
Big light with big batteries
Crowbar or big hammer or big blade
Rope and bungees
Propane burner
Maps — relief and road for the major land mass you live on
Extra batteries
Nails
Plastic sheeting
Work Tape
Earplugs
Playing cards
A few good books
In a backpack that you can grab quickly if you end up on the run:
Water filter or iodine tablets or small bottle of bleach for water
High-calorie dense food product (ie Powerbar)
Small blade (Swiss army, etc.)
Fire – matches, lighter, flint, etc.
One fleece or wool shirt and hat
Small bottle Tylenol, anti-diarrheal, antibiotic gel, anti-allergy.
Band-aids
Two pairs latex gloves
Two disposable face masks
Small hand sanitizer
Small light w/ small batteries
List of phone numbers and paper copies of IDs
Small bottle prescriptions
Local map
Walkie Talkie with small batteries
This list will be expanded as we explore further skills and techniques on this blog.
